For over the past decade women have been filling spots in the Indy 500 race. Two women in particular are making a comeback in hopes to win. Simona de Silvestro is a Swiss race car driver, and Pippa Mann is a British race car driver. Both of these females have passed the qualifying rounds and are now officially entered into the Indy 500 race.
Simona de Silvestro has plans to be headed off to the race on May 19th. This will be her 5th ‘500 start. In 2010 De Silvestro was a rookie to the Indy 500 and took 14th place. She plans to be driving the Nuclear Clean Air Energy sponsored car with a number of 78. Pippa Mann has plans to head off to the race on May 27th. Mann will be driving a pink car in support of her campaign. Pippa Mann is campaigning and fundraising for breast cancer awareness. She is set to make her 4th ‘500 start. For the past decade women have become very involved in the Indy races. Pippa Mann, Simona de Silvestro, Danica Patrick, Sarah Fisher, and Milka Duno have all participated multiple times in the past 10 years.

Simona de Silvestro is returning this year for the 5th time and Pippa Mann will be returning for her 4th time. Both women experienced some car troubles in their practice week. De Silvestro had a fuel leak which later on led to a fire. Mann was in a bad car wreck. Fortunately both females went unharmed and fixed up their cars. The girls will be racing at the 99th Indianapolis 500 race this year.
