Many off-road drivers have someone to thank for getting them started. 17 year old Abi Birch has her father to thank for taking her to her first off-road race. Ever since then, Abi has been racing ever since. Abi competes mainly in the Sodi World Series (SWS) along with off-road driver and businesswoman, Nadia Khan. Although Nadia Khan started racing in just 2013, along with Birch, they have both become top racers in the female standings.
Judy Smith is also a female off-roader who has made a name for herself recently. It started in 1971 when Judy competed in the Baja 500 driving a VW Sedan. In 2008, Judy Smith was placed in the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee. She used to write columns for SCORE and BITD, which got her named “Journalist of the Year”, but now writes columns for the RDC called “From the Driver’s Seat with Judy Smith.”
The Baja 1000 is a race familiar with Anna Cody, and the Baja 500 is a race that is familiar with Heidi Steele. Anna Cody has 2 class championships in SCORE and has more accomplishments. Anna is the first and only female who has completed the Baja 1000, while in the Iron man position on a motorcycle, in the time allotted to her. Currently Anna is the navigator for the JeepSpeed of Binge Racing. Heidi Steele on the other had to take a break in the year of 2011 until 2012 when she got pregnant with her daughter Cameron Kay Steele. Although Heidi took some time off, she went back and kept racing. She proved herself all over again when she won the SCORE Baja 500 in her class. Later on in 2013 Heidi teamed up with Jessica McMillin and entered the Trophy Truck class for SCORE. The team finished in 22nd place and have been the only females to have ever entered and participated in the race.
