Car Chix Talks Car Auctions with D&M Corvette at Iron Gate Motor Condos

Car Chix had the honor of accompanying D&M Corvette Specialists to Iron Gate Motor Condos for their first ‘Chrome & Coffee’ event of the year.  We had heard about this unicorn-like place for automotive enthusiasts for quite sometime. As we entered through the gates, the only thing we could say with our eyes wide and our mouths dropped open was…it does exist!

Known as the place to fuel your passion, Iron Gate Motor Condos is a luxury gated condo community for cars!   Yes, for your cars.  Throughout this state-of-the-art facility, no two units are the same as all private motor condos have been customized to the owner’s needs, style and desires.  In addition to the private luxury motor condos, Iron Gate Motor Condos is currently developing a commercial retail section that is more than 35,000 square feet. The auto-centric commercial development will include high end muscle car and classic car retail, automotive repair and body shop, performance and specialty parts, vehicle detailing and window tinting, automotive restoration and fabrication, as well as, 5,000 square foot showroom for high-end automotive retailers.

While attending the first ‘Chrome & Coffee’ of the year at Iron Gate Motor Condos, we were able to attend an informational session regarding buying cars at auctions with speakers, Dave Glass and Dave Sance of D&M Corvette Specialists and Iron Gate Motor Condos owner, Tom Burgess.

High end auto actions are all the talk right now, especially with Barrett-Jackson Auctions airing every night this last week or two.  Watching these auctions, you can’t help, but get excited, but buyer beware!

“Have your number and don’t get emotional,” stated Tom Burgess.  

So often, people will attend auctions and feel so attached to a vehicle that they may pay way more than they would have or should have.  Leaving an auction with buyers remorse can be the worst!  Just remember, there is always another car and there is always tomorrow.

Dave Glass recommended going into the staging area at the auctions so that you can hear the cars fire up up and idle.  The vehicles on the auction block are rolled across the stage and more than likely you will not get to hear the vehicle run.

“Remember, there is a reason why a car is at the auction,” Dave Glass cautioned.

When going to an auction, be aware that these cars have been dressed for the show.  “You need to know the auction atmosphere and do your research.  Cars are dressed for auction. There’s a reason why they are there,” Dave Sance explained, “Set your limit, know your limit and don’t go over. You will be better off.”

A gentlemen from the crowd yelled at that the person that makes the most money at the auction is the bartender. The crowd all shared in a big laugh.  To the point though, it is always a good idea to bring someone with you that is not attached to the vehicle purchase and that has experience buying and selling at auto auctions.
