Erica Stormes is a young female racer from Kentucky.  She races an 1100 horsepowered dragster with a 615 cubic inch motor that runs 4’s in the 1/8th mile.  Erica Stormes is an accomplished and inspirational racer that has been racing since the age of 8.
“The most unique thing about racing is that females compete against males in auto racing unlike most other sports.  There’s no reason a female can’t be as good as a male,” stated Erica Stormes in a recent interview.
Erica is racing against the odds.  In a sport that mostly consists of men, Erica wants to be noticed for her ability and not her gender.  Many women that are actively involved in motorsports couldn’t agree more.
“It was hard to become known as a creditable racer because I am a female. Being female makes people notice and remember me, but sometimes people don’t realize my abilities because they can’t get past the fact that I’m a girl.”
Erica Stormes won the Junior Drag World Series Championship in 2006.  She competes throughout the year in the Bowling Green Tenntuck.  While most young women her age are going out and shopping, Erica Stormes is putting her priorities first.
“When my friends go shopping or out to eat, I rarely go; I’d rather save my money for racing.  Choosing to race at my level is a big sacrifice socially and financially,” stated Erica.
Erica Stormes is preparing for her upcoming 2013 season.  With Erica’s strong will and ability, we are certain to hear more from this rising drag racing star.
