India is not the first country to come to mind when you think of women in motorsports, specifically female bike racers.  However, there is one…. Alisha Abdullah.  Alisha has been involved with motorsports since the young age of 8, taking after her father.  Like most successful women in motorsports, Alisha entered the scene through the go karting world.
“I was never fascinated by Barbie dolls and toys like other girls of my age. Cars and bikes were my fascination…….  It is sad that the women of the country show absolutely zero participation and interest on racing tracks. The problem in India is that parents and families ridicule the idea of their women racing cars simply because of the huge risk factor and danger involved,” stated female bike racer, Alisha Abdullah in a recent interview.
By the age of 13, she had her first national level win at the MRF National Go-Karting Championship and also won the Best Novice Award.  From there, Alisha Abdullah competed in several road racing championships and super bike racing championships.  She accomplished a 2nd place finish at the 2006 National Road Racing Championship UCAL, 3rd at the 2009 JK Tyre National Super-bike Racing Championship and 8th in the  2012 Volkswagen National Polo Cup in India.  Alisha Abdullah was awarded the  Rotary Young Achiever Award in 2008.
“Everything abroad, right from the treatment given to women racers to the standards of racing and quality of tracks, etc. is totally different from how it is here. People are so much more open-minded and you can spot women racers often there unlike India,” stated Alisha Abdullah when asked about her training experiences in other countries.
Alisha is scheduled to finish shooting a movie about bike racing and compete at several race tracks throughout the world this year, including: Malaysia, Bangkok and Singapore and even a few stops in Europe.
