Veteran motocross racer Kate Lees is a 19 year old 3rd year nursing student. At least, most of the time she is. The rest of her time is spent on the track on her new 2015 KX 250 F bike. Kate started racing at the age of 11 because it was a part of family time but she started to become serious about it. By the age of 14 Kate was competing in the boy’s/men’s classes. This is something she has continued till this day. However, Kate has faced a lot of injuries in her dangerous sport of choice. At the age of 15 she knocked out her 2 front teeth. When she was just 17 years old she broke her collarbone and needed surgery to fix it.
Even though she has had some painfully difficult times, she is not giving up. Earlier in the year of 2015 she participated at the Women’s Western Motocross Nationals. A week before that she had badly injured her foot but refused to get it checked out until after the race. Later on when she did get it checked out the doctors told her that she had 2 broken bones and a cracked ankle. Since the race though, Kate has been named one of Canada’s Top 10 female motocross racers. Alongside her this whole time have been her parents, not to mention their family dog Kane that goes with her to every race. Kate says that without the support of her parents she would not be half the racer she is today and that they bring her good luck.
