#TEAMCARCHIX Survives Blacklight 5k at Chicagoland Speedway

 
#TEAMCARCHIX was at the Blacklight 5k Run at Chicagoland Speedway this past weekend representing Car Chix, the premier motorsports organization for women!  The Blacklight 5k was held to raise money for the Little Giraffe Foundation.  With over 20,000 people in attendance, Car Chix was able to successfully make it across the finish line…. without having to carry anyone!
Car Chix is not a regular at 5k’s to say the least.  We are regulars at car racing tracks and motorsports related activities — so the 5k was the first for many of us.  However, the night was for a great cause, full of great times and at a place that we all love, the rack track.  More specifically, Chicagoland Speedway, home of Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.

Although many of us did not necessarily “train” for the event, I will say it was a great experience and was not what we expected.  As you waited in line to pull into the event, you’d swear that we were at a NHRA National event with lines leading down to the side streets of the town.  After your parked and got settled, you could hear DJ’s spinning and crowds shouting as on stage entertainers filled the air with neon glowing dust and jelly like necklaces and bracelets. It was similar to a night club atmosphere — during the day time and at the race track.  People of all ages and styles were parading around having the time of their life!

And then it’s time to run… Wait, that’s what we came here for –right? After every checkpoint of glowing blacklights and raging speakers, you were completely hammered with more neon glowing dust.  There was no escaping it!  In between check points, people were singing, laughing, telling jokes and .. some were even running.

 
After you crossed the finish line, you were taken back into the nightclub atmosphere — except this time, it was actually night time.  People were clapping, celebrating and yelling, “Congratulations – You Made it!” It was a fantastic time!  We would definitely do it again — maybe not tomorrow (got to rest those legs for racing!).  Congratulations to all the promoters of the event, the racers and the Little Giraffe Foundation.  We are looking forward to participating in another Blacklight 5K Event in the future.
