NASCAR has yet to have a female winner, but why? Brittany Force, 28, feels that focus is a big part to racing in general. To maintain focus, Brittany does hot yoga. Being behind the wheel of a car that goes 300 mph and has 10,000 hp you have to be focused. Brittany feels the faster her car goes, the more in shape she has to be. Females have been racing though since 1965. In 1965, Shirley Muldowney became the first female to get her NHRA license. Ever since then females have been following in her footsteps.
Brittany’s older sister, Courtney, was the female to win the 100th race for NHRA last season. The win was for the Funny Car class finals held in Kansas. In IndyCar, a female named Janet Guthrie has raced three different times in the Indy 500. The best place she ever finished in was 9th place. Then there is Danica Patrick who is the first and only female to ever win the IndyCar, she did this in the year of 2008. However, there have been over 100 wins in NHRA and only one in IndyCar racing, but there haven’t been any female wins in NASCAR yet.
The first NASCAR race held in 1949, a female named Sara Christian placed 14th. 3 weeks after that a race took place where a female named Ethel Mobley took 11th place, Sara Christian took 18th place, and Louise Smith took 20th place. This race was held at Daytona’s beach course. Some of the females believe that they are just better at drag racing because it takes a lot of focus and they have that. To drag race you have to be able to keep your foot on the gas of a 300mph moving car when instincts tell you to lift your foot. The girls eat small meals and snack on fruit throughout the day. This way then when they go to race, they don’t end up getting sick from moving so fast on a full stomach.
