IndyCar Driver, Simona de Silvestro, has been named as an affiliated driver for the F1 Sauber team. Simona de Silvestro will begin racing in test events to obtain her FIA Super License; which is a requirement for all drivers to compete in Formula One events. The Sauber Team expects Simona de Silvestro to meet this requirement with no problems and begin driving as early as 2015.
“Simona’s ambition is to enter Formula one in 2015. We regard her as a very talented race driver, and we, therefore, decided to take her on board as an ‘affiliated driver’ and support her on her way to the pinnacle of motorsport,” stated Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn in a recent interview.
Simona de Silvestro has an impressive racing career at her young age of 25. She has raced for IndyCar for the last 4 years with a podium finish in October of 2013 in Houston. This marked the first time a female ever had a podium finish on a IndyCar road course.
“This is a major step toward me achieving a lifelong dream, and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to take this step with such a great team. The Sauber F1 Team is a team with a legacy and the only Swiss team in Formula One, which I think makes this even more exciting,” stated Simona de Silvestro.
